Hello everybody and welcome to my blog!!!

I will start introducing myself. My name is Francisco Gil García, I am 20 years old and I am student of 3ºB in the Primary Bilingual teaching degree in the University of Málaga, Faculty of Education and Psycology (UMA).

This blog is for the subject Didactics of Geometry. As the name of the subject states, the contents of the blog will be related to the Geometry, a really important part of Mathematics. However, I won't talk about theoretical aspects all the time. I invite you to take a look on the following posts/entries in which we will learn a lot of interesting issues together. 

The name of this new blog is "There is geometry in the humming of the strings and there is music in the spacing of the spheres" - Pythagoras. It is strange to see a quote as a main title for a blog but, why not? This quote relates my passion, the music, with the are that is object of study, the geometry. I can guarantee you that this blog is going to try to make a profound impression on you. 

If you love Maths and, specifically Geometry, It will be totally fantastic. If this area of Maths does not catch your eye, I will try to do my best and show you how wonderful it could be.

As we have been seing in the different entries, geometry is a theme that can be worked properly in a transdisciplinary way with all our students. In this new entry, and as a new suggestion on how to work, I invite you to think off Geometry and the relation with the ROAD SAFETY. We can work in an inductive way, cause this theme allow us to transmit the information to the students working with the  VISUAL THINKING , an strategy I totally recommend you to use with your students, who will be totally able to interiorize it. ACTIVITY PROPOSAL: As I have stated before, try to make students think. Show them this picture and ask them where are there geometrical figures, and what they think each piece represents.  Which polygons can you see on the picture? After doing that, we can provide them with tools such as this chart that will make them establish relations between the geometrical figures and their meaning in road safety. Fashion victims of geometry

Today we are going to talk in this new entry about the different designs in fashion which are compound by geometrical shapes. In ancient civilizations maths, religion and arts weren't divided. Nowadays, the geometry is supposed to be a reference for the new designers. As we should know, students are very influenced by fashion and the new trends. We are able to use those elements to make them see the geometry as something useful and dinamic, guaranteeing  Fashion is fascinated on using geometry, because those patterns allow to create incredible dresses, T-shirts and pieces of arts. It is not necessary to create complex geometrical designs. If you look at this photo, we can do beautiful things we some simple elements. The geometrical patterns used in the fashion designs, squares blacks and white, circles, hexagonal shapes, or line segments are really important in the collections of the new designers.  So.. Geometry & Art

In the last entry we talked about geometry & music. Did you find it interesting? I hope so! The following entry will show another vision of the geometry. As I told you on the introduction, I pretend to provide you with different resources and tools to work the geometry with the students in a motivating way and making it real to them, so they will be totally engaged. Can you imagine with is the area we are going to work on today?... Geometry seen from the Artistic Expression.  From the past to our current times, mathematics and arts have been really related. The simmetry, proportions and the geometry are concepts specially important in arts. If we observe a sculpture, a draw or the architecture we can see that the artists have a mathematic view.    🔺  Do not forget that most of the important mathematicians were artists, and viceversa.  I am offering you a new possibility.
